Caged Bird Feeder Caution
About 3 years ago, my husband and I purchased our first caged bird feeders. And the other day, I received another one.
Caged bird feeders have some great upsides. First, they do a great job of keeping the squirrels from eating you out of house and home. In addition to being a squirrel proof bird feeder, they also only allow the small birds and song birds to eat. The larger blue jays, red winged black birds and grackles cannot pass through to get to the seed in the tube.
There is a small downside that we have found a suitable solition to that I thought I would share with you.
The cage portion of the feeder comes together and creates a seam of sorts down one side of the cage. We learned early on that while 1000 little birds could pass through the cage and eat to their hearts delight and then leave without incident, there was an occasional bird became trapped inside because the feet are caught in the seam. My husband and I had to rescue 2 or 3 of the little birds before we came up with wrapping the seam together with electrical tape. So far, it has worked perfectly, so before I hung the new caged bird feeder, the seam got wrapped.
